18. Compared to overweight people, normal-weight people are ___ likely to engage in eating binges, and ___ likely to experience emotional problems.

a. Less…more
b. Less…less
c. More…less
d. About equally…about equally

I chose answer C. because normal-weight people binge and purge to keep their weight level but don’t suffer much from emotional problems…– I think my answer is correct. Can you please tell me if it is? This one is hard! I really don’t understand page 408. I read it about 15 times. Or it could be D.

i would think b because skinny poeple most likely don't get deprssed by their weight

It's definitely not C!! Are you assuming that ALL NORMAL-WEIGHT PEOPLE binge and purge?? That's a vast generalization that just isn't correct.

I think Chelsea is correct.

"Normal weight?" : "emotional problems?"

Those are terms with greatly varying definitions, with which a room full of adolescent physcians would never agree on a short simple definition. And lord help if a psychaitrist were there.

My experience in working with young folks (teens, young adults) it is the skinny females and the skinny wannabees (cheerleaders, dance team, ...) that are prone to eating disorders, and those are the ones bear counseling. My average weight daugher cheerleader purged as a HS kid, I didn't know it until she told me when she was in college. But my experience is that the eating disorders are mainly focused in the underweight or those that hang with them.
The eating disorders very often go along with body image, self image, and personality challenges. Sometimes disorders, sometimes not. But in any event, they are dangerous, and need professional and competent counseling.

well over wieght teens are often not in the(in) crowd and that caould cause them to start bingeing.

I really think its a hard question that can be answered in many different stand points because not everyone thinks the same.

The question itself is a problem. It uses general terms such as "overweight people" and "normal-weight people" without taking into consideration their age, their social situations, etc.

It's just not a good question.

=(

i agree

To determine the correct answer to this question, we need to understand the comparison between normal-weight people and overweight people regarding their likelihood of engaging in eating binges and experiencing emotional problems.

To find the answer, let's break down the options given:

a. Less...more
b. Less...less
c. More...less
d. About equally...about equally

Your reasoning for choosing option C is that normal-weight people may binge and purge to maintain their weight level but don't suffer much from emotional problems. However, this reasoning alone does not provide enough information to select the correct answer.
