It was formed as a response to the growing need for Arab unity and solidarity in the face of rising threats and challenges in the region. The original six founding member states were Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Over the years, the league has expanded to include 22 member states, all of whom are located in the Arab world.
