The Arab League was formed in 1945 with the purpose of promoting economic, cultural, and political cooperation among Arab countries. Its creation was in response to the need for a united front against external threats and to address common interests and challenges faced by Arab nations. The founding members of the Arab League included Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen. Over the years, the organization has expanded to include a total of 22 member states.
