One of the darker actions examined in this unit is the betrayal of a loved one. This is highlighted in Shakespeare's play "Othello," where Iago betrays Othello by manipulating him into believing that his wife, Desdemona, is unfaithful.

Iago's intentions in betraying Othello stem from his jealousy and desire for revenge. He is envious of Othello's success and is determined to bring him down by any means necessary. This prompts him to deceive Othello into believing that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio, thus leading to Othello's tragic downfall.

If Iago were able to overcome his darker impulses and indulge a higher intention, the story would play out very differently. Perhaps he would find a constructive way to deal with his jealousy and look for ways to improve his own life without harming others. This would lead to a more peaceful outcome for all the characters involved, with Othello and Desdemona's love remaining strong and Iago finding fulfillment in a positive way rather than through manipulation and betrayal.
