What African American individual from the past or present has made an impact on you? It can be anyone at all!

Can you create a still scene that would show the significance this person has made on the world or in your life?

Instructions & Resources:

*Interactive: video clips, informational tidbits, virtual field trips, and hyperlinks.*

Requirements: (all of the following must be included)
Include a picture and short biography (paragraph) over who you have picked for this project.
Include a short summary of the scene that you have picked and why
Give at least 5 artifacts with the scene that are significant to the person that you have chosen. Include a sentence for each artifact explaining why it is significant.
Come up with the dimensions of the overall scene and then scale is down to size (make sure to include the dimensions of the original and scaled down version)
Show all calculations that were included in the scaling process

I have chosen to focus on Rosa Parks, an influential figure in the Civil Rights Movement.

Rosa Parks was an African American civil rights activist who is best known for her role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger, which was the law at the time. Her act of defiance sparked a citywide boycott of the buses by African Americans, led by Martin Luther King Jr., and eventually led to a Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public transportation was unconstitutional. Parks became an icon of the civil rights movement and is often referred to as the "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement."

The scene I have chosen to depict is a still moment on a Montgomery bus, with Rosa Parks sitting in the front row of the "colored" section. The significance of this scene lies in Rosa Parks' courage and determination to challenge the unjust racial segregation laws of the time. By refusing to give up her seat, she ignited a movement and inspired countless others to stand up for their rights.

Five artifacts that are significant to Rosa Parks and the scene include:
1. Bus seat: This artifact represents the physical space where Rosa Parks made her stand and refused to give up her seat.
2. Montgomery Bus Boycott pamphlet: This artifact symbolizes the organized resistance and unity of the African American community during the boycott.
3. Martin Luther King Jr.'s book: This artifact represents the influential role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights movement and his partnership with Rosa Parks.
4. Rosa Parks' signature: This artifact signifies Rosa Parks' personal involvement and commitment to the civil rights movement.
5. Supreme Court ruling document: This artifact represents the legal victory achieved as a result of Rosa Parks' actions, leading to the end of segregation on public transportation.

The dimensions of the overall scene are 10 feet by 8 feet, and the scaled-down version is 1 foot by 10 inches. The scaling process is as follows:

Original dimension: 10ft x 8ft
Scaled-down dimension: 0.833ft x 0.667ft

To calculate the scaled-down dimension, divide each original dimension by 12 (since there are 12 inches in a foot). In this case, 10ft/12 = 0.833ft and 8ft/12 = 0.667ft.
