Of your list -- only lower taxes and higher wages would have helped the poor farmers.

I don't think you understand the conditions the French peasants lived under around 1790.

First -- there were no tractors. Steam-powered tractors weren't invented for almost 100 years. Plows were pulled or pushed by human power. The lucky farmers might have an ox to pull the plow.

The peasants were starving, so education and updated clothing weren't even considered. They had one or two suits of clothing to cover themselves. These poor farmers needed food!

Please go back and read your text carefully. Also, this site has some excellent information.

Certainly! Here is an expanded list of conditions that might have enabled farmers to support themselves comfortably:

1. Lower Taxes: Farmers would benefit from lower taxes as it would reduce their financial burden, allowing them to allocate more resources towards improving their farming practices and investments.

2. Access to Education: Providing farmers with access to quality education in agricultural techniques and business management would help them optimize their farming practices, increase their productivity, and make informed financial decisions.

3. Housing Security: Ensuring stable and affordable housing for farmers would alleviate financial stress and allow them to focus on their farming operations without worrying about housing-related expenses.

4. Updated Farming Equipment: Access to new and improved tractors, machinery, and tools would enhance efficiency, increase productivity, and reduce labor-intensive tasks for farmers.

5. Modernized Equipment: In addition to farming machinery, providing farmers with updated equipment such as irrigation systems, advanced pest control methods, and efficient storage facilities would further improve their productivity and reduce losses.

6. Improved Clothing: Supplying farmers with suitable and durable clothing designed for their specific work conditions would enhance their safety, comfort, and overall well-being while working in the fields.

7. Fair Compensation: Ensuring that farmers receive a fair salary for their hard work and dedication would enable them to meet their basic needs, invest in their farms, and support themselves and their families without financial struggles.

Remember that this list is not exhaustive, and there may be other conditions specific to different regions and agricultural practices that could contribute to farmers supporting themselves comfortably.
