An important part of the speech writing process is creating an outline. The more practice you get building outlines, they better and easier they will become. For this lab, you will be creating a presentation outline for a demonstration speech. A demonstration speech is a speech where you teach an audience how to do something, for example how to change a tire, how to create a smoky eye effect, etc. If you are unable to come up with an idea, search “how to” speech ideas and you will find hundreds of ideas. Select a topic that you already have some knowledge about, so you don’t need to do much research. Try to limit the steps of the demonstration to two or three steps, and group steps together if needed. The assignment is to work on outlining skills, not research.

You will create an outline with a heading, introduction, body, and conclusion. Below is a sample format of what is expected in the outline. Use the sample preparation outline in the unit for a model. Remember, preparation outlines use full sentences, proper grammar, and consistent formatting.
