Show all your work, including proper units, and correct significant digits! You must answer the

following THREE questions. Each question is worth 6 marks.

5. Consider the following galvanic (voltaic) cell.
Fe(s) + Cr3+ (aq) eāˆ’ ā†’ Fe2+ + C(s)
a) Draw and label a diagram of the cell.
b) Identify the anode and cathode of the cell.
c) Label the direction of electron flow.
d) Identify the oxidizing and reducing agents.

a) The diagram of the cell would look like this:

Fe(s) | Fe2+(aq) || Cr3+(aq) | C(s)

Anode Cathode

b) The anode is the electrode where oxidation occurs, which is the Fe(s) electrode in this case.
The cathode is the electrode where reduction occurs, which is the C(s) electrode in this case.

c) The electron flow in the cell is from the anode to the cathode.

d) The oxidizing agent is the species that gets reduced, which is the Cr3+(aq) in this case.
The reducing agent is the species that gets oxidized, which is the Fe(s) in this case.
