The Texas leaders meeting at the Constitutional Convention of 1863 caused the abolishment of slavery in the state of Texas. At the convention, delegates voted to amend the state constitution to ban slavery, making Texas the last state to do so during the Civil War. The convention also reasserted Texas' loyalty to the Union and adopted measures to address the state's economic and political future.
