It would be stressful, and slightly scary to be a new U.S immigrant. First, you would have to leave home to get on a boat that would take you to Ellis Island. This took a lot of courage because you had no idea where you would live or how you would make a living. Or even if you would pass the examinations on Ellis Island. There were a million things you could stress about. It was also very scary traveling to a new world with possibly different languages and cultures than you. If everyone spoke a different language than you nothing would make sense. It would be difficult to find a job if you couldn't communicate with others. Even if you did speak the same language it could be hard to find a good-paying job that was also safe because many industrial jobs were dangerous at the time. Plus, finding a good home was also a worry. Finding the money to afford a safe, clean home could be challenging. It was very hard for immigrants because of prejudice. Immigrants were treated unfairly because of their culture, language, or the color of their skin. Facing prejudice was very difficult. Only a few spoke up for immigrants. These are just a few challenges immigrants faced. There were many challenges for new U.S. immigrants.
