I'm writing a paper for humanities class. it has to be in APA annotated bibliography format. Here's the question:

Discuss the relationship between art and religion among the various different cultures the course has touched upon. Consider such media as sculpture, painting and architecture. Your discussion must utilize specific examples from at least four (4) cultures including some from both the Western and Eastern traditions.

I have no idea where to start!! Please help!! This has to be between 7-10 pages.

You start by researching and taking good notes.

First, choose at least four cultures you've studied in this class. Make an outline for each, detailing its religion and art.

After you've gathered your facts, then try to tie in the relationships between art and religion.

Good point. Thank you! Anything else you think I need to hit on? I'm not sure I'll be able to make the 7-10 page requirement.

Are there any good sites that are credible for citing?

Start with your text. If you need more information about specific cultures, check online sites. In general, any site with edu. in its URL will be credible.

If you need more help, please post specific questions.

Ok, thank you for your help!

You're welcome. I hope you enjoy researching and writing this paper.

Ok, another question. What is an annotated bibliography? I understand what citing work is, but how does annotated bibliography fit in? To me, it looks like you basically copy and paste the authors work, and then in a paragraph before pasting it, you cite it. Is that correct?

A bibliography is a separate part of your paper. In it you list the books, authors, etc., you've consulted. An annotated bibliography includes a sentence or two about the work you've cited.

Writing an APA annotated bibliography requires conducting research, analyzing sources, and organizing your findings. Here are the steps to help you get started on your paper:

1. Understand the assignment: Review the assignment requirements and guidelines provided by your professor. Pay attention to specific formatting requirements for the annotated bibliography and any additional instructions for the content.

2. Identify keywords: Break down the question into key concepts such as "art," "religion," "sculpture," "painting," "architecture," "different cultures," and "Western and Eastern traditions." These keywords will guide your research when searching for relevant sources.

3. Conduct research: Start by gathering information on art, religion, and their relationship in various cultures. Use academic databases, scholarly journals, books, and reputable websites to find reliable sources. Use relevant keywords to narrow down your search. Note down the sources you find for later reference.

4. Evaluate sources: Carefully evaluate the credibility of each source. Consider the author's qualifications, the publication's reputation, and the relevance of the source to your topic. Choose sources that contribute to the depth and breadth of your understanding of the relationship between art and religion in different cultures.

5. Read and take notes: As you read each source, take notes on key points, arguments, examples, and any relevant quotes. Also, note down the source's citation information, including the author's name, title, publication date, and page numbers.

6. Organize your sources: Create an annotated bibliography in APA format. For each source, provide a citation in APA style, followed by a concise summary (annotation) of the source's content and relevance to your topic.

7. Analyze and synthesize information: Analyze each source's content, drawing connections and identifying common themes or patterns across different cultures. Compare and contrast the role of art and religion in different traditions. Consider how sculpture, painting, and architecture express religious beliefs, values, and rituals.

8. Identify specific examples: Choose at least four cultures, including those from both Western and Eastern traditions, and identify specific examples of art (sculpture, painting, and architecture) that showcase the relationship between art and religion in each culture. Describe and analyze those examples in detail, explaining their significance and cultural context.

9. Organize your paper: Create an outline that structures your discussion. Start with an introduction that presents your thesis statement, followed by supporting paragraphs for each culture and art form. Use clear topic sentences and provide evidence and analysis in each paragraph.

10. Write your paper: Start with the introduction, where you provide background information and introduce the main points you will discuss. In the body paragraphs, present your findings for each culture and art form, using specific examples and analysis. Ensure your paragraphs flow logically and include transitional phrases. Conclude your paper by summarizing your main points and restating your thesis.

11. Edit and revise: Review your paper for clarity, coherence, and proper grammar and spelling. Ensure your APA citations are accurate and properly formatted. Revise your writing for clarity and conciseness, and consider seeking feedback from a peer or your instructor.

Remember to consult your professor or writing center for any specific questions or additional guidance. Good luck with your paper!
