Economic Geography

The geography of consumption if different from geography of production. Why? What does it mean to say that our geographies of consumption are becoming increasingly disjunct from the geographies of other aspects of our everyday lives (work, school, etc)? what does this disjuncture mean for the patterns consumption produces in space? What does it express about the desires and preferences of consumers?

  1. Consider how many things -- large and small, important and trivial -- are made in China, but purchased and used in the US.

    You can choose any product or commodity and see which countries or areas are the largest producers. Then see which country or area is the largest consumer.

    Google searches will help you figure that out.
