Gravity from the moon pulls the oceans towards it, creating a bulge of water on the side of Earth facing the moon. A second bulge of water is created on the opposite side of the Earth due to the centrifugal force caused by the Earth-Moon system's rotation. This causes the daily rise and fall of ocean waters, creating high and low tides.
