What to Do about the U.S. Education
The low scores of the U.S. students in math and science tests means that they are not as prepared to take high-paying computer and engineering jobs as foreign workers. Did you know that in Silicon Valley, America’s high-tech innovation center, foreign-born software engineers make up the majority? Did you also know that many American companies are simply outsourcing their tech jobs to companies overseas? The alarming fact is that fewer American citizens are qualified to take these high paying jobs that rely on high math and science abilities.

The decline in the future prospect of high-paying jobs for American citizens also means that the growth of the U.S. economy is at risk. It could have grown 4.5% in the next 20 years if American students were in par with the rest of the world in math and science scores. Many Americans believe that the students are already best in the world in math and science skills. However, this denial will only further worsen the problem of American students falling behind other students in industrialized nations.

While the U.S. still takes pride in many amazing institutions of higher education, the research jobs are going to foreign-born students, professors, and so on. In this era of innovation and technology, the U.S. needs to invest in its students and teachers of math and science for a better future of not only the students but also the economic growth of the nation. Teachers need to be equipped with the latest technology and teaching methods. More focus should be on innovating teaching and learning and not standardized testing.
