The low scores of the U.S. students in math and science tests means that they are not as prepared to take high-paying computer and engineering jobs as foreign workers. It could have grown 4.5% in the next 20 years if American students were in par with the rest of the world in math and science scores. Many Americans believe that the students are already best in the world in math and science skills. However, this denial will only further worsen the problem of American students falling behind other students in industrialized nations.
While the U.S. still takes pride in many amazing institutions of higher education, the research jobs are going to foreign-born students, professors, and so on. In this era of innovation and technology, the U.S. needs to invest in its students and teachers of math and science for a better future of not only the students but also the economic growth of the nation. Teachers need to be equipped with the latest technology and teaching methods. More focus should be on innovating teaching and learning and not standardized testing.
