The Florissant Fossil Beds in Colorado are home to several massive redwood stumps that were

preserved in volcanic ash around 34 million years ago. These ancient giants once towered more than 230 feet tall and are a rare and impressive reminder of the diverse ecosystems that thrived in the region during the Eocene epoch.
