Write a research proposal on the impact that a lack of primary socialisation holds for teens in your community. Apply the steps in the research process when writing your proposal.

INSTRUCTIONS: Step 1: Identity the topic of investigation (identify the research question) Step 2: Write a short literature review in which you specifically address the following: • Define the concept socialisation and discuss the different types of socialisation. • Discuss the importance of socialisation. • Discuss the impact of poor socialisation on teens. Step 3: Identify and define at least 3 concepts related to the topic under investigation: e.g. “socialisation”. Step 4: Identify the research design (qualitative or quantitative) you would follow, who the research population would be, how you would go about sampling and how you would gather data from that sample. Make sure to define what a sample is and also briefly discuss the method

Step 1: Research Question

What is the impact of a lack of primary socialization on teenagers in my community?

Step 2: Literature Review
Socialization refers to the process through which individuals learn the values, norms, and behaviors of their society. It is a lifelong process that begins in infancy and continues throughout one's life. There are different types of socialization, including primary socialization (which occurs in the early years of life and is typically provided by family members) and secondary socialization (which takes place through interactions with peers, media, and other social institutions).

Socialization is crucial for individuals as it helps them develop their sense of self, learn appropriate behaviors, and become functioning members of society. It plays a significant role in shaping an individual's attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.

However, the lack of primary socialization can have negative consequences, especially for teenagers. Without a solid foundation provided by primary socialization, teenagers may struggle to navigate social relationships, make responsible decisions, and develop a strong sense of self. They may also be more susceptible to negative influences from peers and media.

Step 3: Concepts Related to the Topic
1. Primary socialization: The process through which individuals learn the fundamental values, norms, and behaviors of their society during the early years of life.
2. Teenagers: Individuals between the ages of 13 and 19 who are undergoing significant physical, emotional, and social changes.
3. Impact: The effect or influence that a lack of primary socialization can have on teenagers in terms of their social development, behavior, and overall well-being.

Step 4: Research Design
I would follow a qualitative research design for this study to gather in-depth insights and perspectives on the impact of a lack of primary socialization on teenagers in my community. The research population would consist of teenagers in my community who have experienced a lack of primary socialization. I would use purposive sampling to select participants who meet specific criteria related to the research question.

Data would be gathered through interviews, focus groups, and observations to understand the experiences, challenges, and outcomes of teenagers who have not received adequate primary socialization. The findings from this study could provide valuable insights for educators, parents, and policymakers to address the needs of teenagers who may be at risk due to a lack of primary socialization.
