What is soil salinization?

Soil salinization is the accumulation of salt in soil, which can have negative effects on plant growth and crop production. This can occur naturally in arid regions where there is high evaporation rates and low rainfall, or it can be caused by human activities such as irrigation with salty water, overuse of fertilizers containing salts, and poor drainage systems. Salinization can lead to reduced soil fertility, decreased crop yields, and ultimately land degradation.
