Father Modesty Demerars was looked upon more favorably by Native Americans because he respected their culture and traditions, took the time to listen and learn from them, and did not try to force his own beliefs onto them. He approached them with humility and understanding, building relationships based on mutual respect. In contrast, many Protestant missionaries were perceived as arrogant, judgmental, and pushy, often treating Native Americans as inferior and trying to enforce their own beliefs without regard for the Native cultures and traditions. Father Modesty's approach of genuine respect and empathy towards the Native Americans earned him their trust and admiration.
