Unit 4 lesson 3

In this lesson, we will be discussing the concepts of multiplication and division, as well as learning more about how to solve problems involving these operations.

Multiplication is the process of combining equal groups to find a total amount. It is represented by the symbol "x" or by placing numbers next to each other. For example, 3 x 4 can be read as "3 groups of 4" or "3 times 4" and is equal to 12.

Division, on the other hand, is the process of breaking a total amount into equal groups. It is represented by the symbol "÷" or by using a fraction bar. For example, 12 ÷ 3 can be read as "12 divided by 3" and is equal to 4.

When solving multiplication and division problems, it is important to follow the order of operations (PEMDAS - Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction) to ensure the correct answer.

To practice multiplication and division, it is helpful to use manipulatives or draw pictures to represent the problem. This can make the concepts easier to understand and solve.

By the end of this lesson, you should have a better understanding of multiplication and division and be able to solve problems involving these operations. Let's get started!
