Why does static electricity shock you?

The voltage is to much

The friction of all the metal

The discharge of protons on the surface

The discharge of electrons on the surface

Static electricity shocks occur when there is a build-up of an imbalance of electric charge on the surface of an object. This imbalance can be caused by friction, such as when two different materials rub against each other, transferring electrons from one material to the other. When the charged object comes into contact with another object with a different charge or has a different potential, the excess charge will try to equalize, resulting in a sudden flow of current and a shock sensation. So, in essence, static electricity shocks occur due to the discharge of electrons on the surface.
