Belize has a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. This means that the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, represented in Belize by a Governor-General, while executive power is exercised by the Prime Minister who is the head of government. This system is different from the presidential or republic form of government found in many other Central American countries.
