There are two parts to this activity: a design project and a short explanation of your design.

For each Historical Piece Portfolio, you will use Inkscape or an image editing software of your choice to create an original piece of artwork that reflects one of the design styles you have studied in this unit.

For the third Historical Piece portfolio, you will create a magazine cover that reflects one of the following design styles:

Doo-Wop
International Typographic Style
Pop Art
To create your design, choose an appropriate subject matter, purpose, and audience. What topics does your (imaginary) magazine cover? What type of reader would this magazine want to attract? Who will view this design?

Once you have identified the answers to these questions, choose the Doo-Wop, International Typographic Style, or Pop Art style and begin creating your design.

For the short explanation, write 1-2 paragraphs describing which characteristics of the design style can be seen in your design. Analyze how the historical and aesthetic influences of the time period are reflected in your design.

For my Historical Piece Portfolio magazine cover, I chose to create a design inspired by the Pop Art style. The magazine cover features bold, bright colors and iconic vintage imagery that is synonymous with the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. The subject matter of the magazine cover is focused on popular culture and celebrities, appealing to a young, hip audience who are interested in staying up-to-date on the latest trends and gossip.

The design reflects the characteristics of Pop Art through its use of bold, graphic shapes, vibrant colors, and playful typography. The historical influence of the 1960s can be seen in the retro aesthetic of the design, which pays homage to the era of Warhol and Lichtenstein. The design also reflects the cultural influences of the time period, with its emphasis on consumerism and mass media. Overall, my Pop Art-inspired magazine cover captures the essence of the iconic design style and its historical context.
