One of the greatest threats to species today and the main cause of endangerment is habitat destruction and fragmentation. This occurs when natural habitats are damaged, destroyed, or altered, leading to loss of biodiversity and extinction of species. Activities such as deforestation, urbanization, agriculture, mining, and pollution are major contributors to habitat destruction and fragmentation. As habitats disappear, species are left with limited resources and are unable to survive and reproduce, ultimately leading to their decline and possible extinction.
