Degenerative refers to a gradual deterioration or breakdown of cells, tissues, or organs over time. In the case of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), it means that the condition worsens and becomes more severe as the individual sustains repeated head injuries or trauma. Symptoms of CTE can progress and become more debilitating over time.
