Sermon on Genesis 17 vs 15 to 27 and Galatians 3 vs 15 to 29

Genesis 17:15-27 tells the story of God's covenant with Abraham to make him the father of many nations. God changes Abraham's name to Abraham and promises him descendants who will become great nations. God also commands that every male in Abraham's household be circumcised as a sign of their commitment to the covenant. This covenant is a reminder of God's faithfulness and the fulfillment of His promises to Abraham.

In Galatians 3:15-29, the apostle Paul explains the significance of the covenant made with Abraham in light of the new covenant established through Jesus Christ. Paul emphasizes that the law given to Moses did not nullify the promises made to Abraham, but was intended to lead the people to Christ. Through faith in Jesus, all believers become heirs to the promises given to Abraham and are united as one in Christ, regardless of their heritage or background.

These passages remind us of the importance of faith in God's promises and the unity we have as believers in Christ. Just as Abraham trusted in God's promises and was obedient to His commands, we are called to have faith in Jesus and live in obedience to Him. The covenant with Abraham serves as a foreshadowing of the greater covenant we have through Jesus, where all who believe are united as one family in Christ.

Let us remember the faithfulness of God in fulfilling His promises to Abraham and trust in His faithfulness to us today. May we live in obedience to Jesus, knowing that through Him we are heirs to the promises of God and are united as one body in Christ.
