Haven’t you noticed how few lead female characters there are in Hollywood films?

It is important for movies to feature actors from a variety of social and economic backgrounds.

A 2016 report from the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film noted that women made up less than a third of lead characters in movies, despite comprising approximately half of the US population.

Additionally, a study by the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found that only 3.4% of speaking characters in the top-grossing films from 2007-2017 were depicted as characters with disabilities, despite the fact that nearly 20% of the US population has a disability.

Furthermore, the LGBTQ+ community is also underrepresented in mainstream films. A GLAAD study found that only 18.2% of mainstream films released in 2019 included LGBTQ characters, with even fewer representing transgender and bisexual characters.

Overall, while progress has been made in increasing diversity in film, there is still a long way to go in accurately representing the diverse demographics of society on screen.
