Why did Mohammed move from Mecca to the city of Medina?

Mohammed moved from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD in an event known as the Hijra. This relocation was prompted by increasing persecution and threats to his followers in Mecca by the ruling Quraysh tribe. The people of Medina, known as the Ansar, invited Mohammed to come to their city and serve as a mediator to resolve ongoing conflicts between various tribes. Mohammed saw this as an opportunity to establish a new community where Islam could thrive and grow without persecution. The move to Medina marked the beginning of the Islamic calendar and had significant implications for the spread and development of Islam as a major world religion.
