The Mukden Incident, also known as the Manchurian Incident, began on September 18, 1931, when a section of the Japanese-controlled South Manchurian Railway in Mukden (now Shenyang, China) was detonated. The Japanese military used this as a pretext to invade and occupy the area, claiming that it was in response to a supposed Chinese sabotage plot. This event marked the beginning of Japan's aggressive expansion into China and eventually led to the full-scale invasion and occupation of the region.
