Artificial selection is the process by which humans intentionally choose certain traits or characteristics in organisms and selectively breed them to produce offspring with those desired traits. This process is used in agriculture to develop crops with higher yields or resistance to pests, in animal breeding to develop livestock with desired traits such as faster growth or increased milk production, and in other contexts to bring about specific changes in living organisms. Artificial selection is also known as selective breeding.
