Muhammad, the founder of Islam, conquered Mecca around 630 AD and cleansed the Kaaba of idols that had been placed there by various tribes. He then rededicated the Kaaba to the worship of Allah, the monotheistic God of Islam. This event is known as the Conquest of Mecca and is considered a pivotal moment in the spread of Islam.
