exhibit certain characteristics of life. These characteristics include:
1. Cellular organization - The object must be made up of one or more cells.
2. Metabolism - The object must be able to acquire and use energy to maintain its internal functions.
3. Growth - The object must be able to grow and develop over time.
4. Reproduction - The object must be able to reproduce either sexually or asexually.
5. Response to stimuli - The object must be able to respond to its environment and adapt to changes.
6. Homeostasis - The object must be able to maintain a stable internal environment.
If the small object exhibits these characteristics, it can be considered alive.
