I really enjoyed listening to the examples of Modern musical styles presented in this unit. Impressionism stood out to me because of its use of non-traditional scales and unconventional chord progressions. The dreamy and atmospheric quality of Impressionist music is very captivating.
12-tone music, on the other hand, felt more structured and mathematical to me. The systematic use of all twelve notes of the chromatic scale in a predetermined order really sets this musical style apart. The lack of a traditional tonal center was both intriguing and challenging to listen to.
As for jazz, I have always been a fan of this genre. The syncopated rhythms, improvisational elements, and dynamic contrasts in jazz music never fail to impress me. The freedom and individuality of jazz musicians really shine through in their performances.
Overall, I think my favorite musical style out of the three would have to be jazz. Its energy and creativity never fail to uplift me and transport me to a different world.
