For this activity, you will research a health risk that greatly affects young adults in your age group. Next, you will evaluate different prevention strategies that help reduce the risk of injury, illness, or death. (Consider: Do some strategies seem to be more helpful than others? Which ones would be less likely to succeed, in your opinion?)

Give valid health information related to these questions:

How does the desire for some teens to take risks cause unsafe consequences?
What is one behavior-related health risk that results in injury, illness, or death for teens?
What is your personal susceptibility to this behavior-related health risk and why?
What healthy practices or behaviors can reduce the risk?

One behavior-related health risk that greatly affects young adults, including teens, is substance abuse. Substance abuse can result in injury, illness, or even death due to the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol on the body. This risk is further exacerbated by the desire of some teens to take risks and experiment with substances.

As a young adult myself, I am susceptible to the behavior-related health risk of substance abuse. Peer pressure, social influences, and curiosity can all play a role in leading individuals to experiment with drugs and alcohol. Additionally, as a college student, the party culture and availability of substances can also contribute to this risk.

To reduce the risk of substance abuse, it is important to engage in healthy practices and behaviors. This includes staying informed about the risks and consequences of substance abuse, setting boundaries and saying no to peer pressure, surrounding oneself with supportive and positive influences, and seeking help if needed. Additionally, engaging in healthy activities such as exercise, hobbies, and socializing in sober environments can also help reduce the likelihood of engaging in harmful substance use. It is essential to prioritize mental and physical well-being and make choices that support a healthy lifestyle.
