The human body is made of different systems. They work together to keep you moving, eating, breathing and doing everything else a body can do! The nervous system is one such system. It’s responsible for what you think, do and feel. Your nervous system includes your brain, spinal cord and specialized cells called neurons. Thanks to your nervous system, you can react to any stimulus, or change, in your environment. Messages are carried from your eyes, ears, mouth and the rest of your body to your spinal cord and brain. Messages are carried from your brain, down your spinal cord to the rest of your body, too. If you step on something yellow and slippery, it’s your nervous system that coordinates your response as you try to keep your balance. And it’s your nervous system that determines what that yellow, slippery thing actually is.
