The lion, scientifically known as Panthera leo, belongs to the class of mammals. Mammals are characterized by having fur or hair, being warm-blooded, and having mammary glands that produce milk to feed their young. Like other mammals, lions give live birth to their offspring and nurse them with milk. They also have highly developed sensory organs, including well-developed eyes and ears, which are common traits in mammals. Additionally, lions possess specialized teeth for tearing flesh and have a four-chambered heart, characteristics shared by other mammals as well.
