Ghana’s “Founder’s Day” was a national holiday to
commemorate the achievements of President Kwame Nkrumah
and honor his participation in the Ghanaian movement for
independence from British colonial rule. The holiday was
established on September 21st, which coincides with Nkrumah’s
birthday. This was also an opportunity for Ghanaians to reflect
on the sacrifices of their fore-bearers who fought for Ghana’s
independence.
In 2019, the Ghanaian government instituted “Founders’ Day,” on
August 4, to widen the scope of the celebration and
commemorate all people who played a role in the liberation of
the country. August 4th was designated as the new date
because it coincides with the formation of the first political party
in the country. The Ghanaians observe the holiday to include
activities that will encourage the Ghanaian people within the
country and in the diaspora to accept Ghana as their homeland.
These stamps were produced in 1963 to
commemorate the originally established
“Founder’s Day.” The stamps include several
images of Ghanaian Nationalism and
Nkrumah.

Founder's Day in Ghana is a national holiday that celebrates the achievements of President Kwame Nkrumah and his involvement in Ghana's fight for independence from British colonial rule. It is held on September 21st, which is Nkrumah's birthday. The holiday also provides an opportunity for Ghanaians to honor the sacrifices made by their ancestors in securing Ghana's independence.

In 2019, the Ghanaian government introduced a new holiday called "Founders' Day," which takes place on August 4th. This day was chosen because it marks the formation of the country's first political party. Founders' Day aims to broaden the celebration and pay tribute to all individuals who played a part in liberating the country.

The purpose of the holiday is to encourage Ghanaians, both within the country and abroad, to embrace Ghana as their homeland. It includes various activities that foster a sense of national pride.

The document also mentions stamps that were created in 1963 to commemorate the original "Founder's Day." These stamps feature images related to Ghanaian Nationalism and Nkrumah.

Additionally, September 21st has been designated as "Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day" to specifically honor his role in the independence movement.
