It is common knowledge that America consumes a lot of resources compared to the rest of the world. We need more gasoline, eat bigger meals, and drink from larger size cups. We waste a lot of what we purchase, and we buy many things we didn't need in the first place. In addition to lack of public transport, abundance of plastic bags, and overuse of disposables, we have managed to do more than a nation's share in global warming.

Only the other day, while I was shopping in an outlet mall, I noticed that the store's doors were wide open while the air conditioning was perhaps set to a freezing temperature. The sales clerks cared more about the view outside than the tremendous amount of energy they were wasting. I wondered why the customers weren't bothered by the waste of energy. Why shouldn't we start thinking about alternative sources of energy? I asked the clothing store manager to close the doors. I also started to make a list of what I really needed, and I never shopped when I was very hungry.
