Don Juan Bautista de Anza solved the problem of limited Spanish presence in California by leading expeditions and establishing missions, presidios, and pueblos to establish Spanish control and colonization in the region. He also helped to establish a land route from Sonora, Mexico to the northern part of California, allowing for easier transportation and communication between the Spanish settlements.
