Example- (Vonnegut 2)

In "Harrison Bergeron," one of the significant conflicts is the struggle between individuals and the oppressive society that enforces equality by handicapping those who are above average in any way. This conflict is evident when the author describes Harrison Bergeron, a young man who stands out due to his intelligence, strength, and physical appearance. Vonnegut writes, "Harrison looked like a walking junkyard. [...] A living, breathing scrap heap of the civilization that had nearly abolished the concept of intelligence" (Vonnegut 3). This quote demonstrates the conflict between individuals who possess exceptional abilities and the society that strives to eliminate any form of superiority. Harrison's appearance signifies a direct challenge to the society's oppressive laws, creating tension and conflict between his desire for personal freedom and the society's insistence on absolute equality.
