The trade winds do not blow near the poles. They are the prevailing winds that blow from the east towards the west in the tropical regions near the equator, approximately between 30 degrees north and 30 degrees south latitude. These winds are named "trade winds" as they were historically used by trading vessels to sail across the oceans.
