The Big Bang theory proposes that the universe originated from a singular point of infinite density, known as a singularity, around 13.8 billion years ago. At this point, the universe was extremely hot and dense. As the universe expanded rapidly, it cooled down and particles began to form, eventually leading to the formation of atoms and later galaxies, stars, and planets. The Big Bang theory also suggests that the universe continues to expand to this day.
