In the call of the wild, why did buck end up in the Yukon Territory?

Buck, the protagonist in "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London, ends up in the Yukon Territory as a result of being kidnapped and sold into slavery. Initially, Buck lives a comfortable life in California as a domesticated dog. However, he is stolen by Manuel, a gardener in his family's household, who sells him to dog traders searching for strong sled dogs during the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon. Thus, Buck is transported against his will to the remote and harsh environment of the Yukon Territory, where he begins his transformative journey.
