From which position we’re Christians and Jews excluded in the Islamic empire

Christians and Jews within the Islamic Empire were excluded from holding the highest positions of political power and authority. For instance, they were generally not allowed to become caliphs or hold important government posts. However, they were allowed to retain their religious practices and had the right to follow their own religious and legal systems under certain conditions. Additionally, they were required to pay a special tax called jizya, although this tax ensured their protection under Islamic rule.
