Harry the Ant followed patiently along in his line. There were many ants in front of him and many ants following behind him. Each ant carried a large piece of food on their back to deliver to their anthill.

Harry was not like most other ants, though. He did not enjoy doing the same thing every day and often dreamed of what it would be like to break free from the group. With a lazy sigh, he dropped his crumb of food into the stack and turned around to gather another piece.

When he felt the sunshine on his back, he drifted off into a fantasy about a big lake of water for a swim. Just then, a loud snap cracked across the sky. Horrified, the ants found themselves with a large stick in front of them. Panicked, the ants started to break formation. They scrambled in every direction. Harry saw his chance and raced away from the line as quickly as he could. He wove through the chaos of the other ants until he found himself in a field of tall blades of grass.

“Wow! I can’t believe I’ve done it! I am finally free!” Harry cheered as he ran through the lawn. He leaped into the air to celebrate. Then, he reached a clearing and had to skid to a stop as he almost fell into a huge lake. With a happy scream, he waded into the water and spent his day relaxing and enjoying his new freedom. I will head back to the pack another time, for now, I will think only of this cool water and sunshine.
