I can determine if a trait is influenced by the environment by looking at how it changes. For example, if a plant grows taller when it gets more sunlight, that tells me that sunlight affects its height. Also, if my friend's hair turns lighter in the summer from being in the sun, that shows me that the sun can change hair color. So, by observing changes in traits when the environment changes, I can figure out if the environment has an impact.
