Two things I learned from this course that will help me achieve this goal are:

1) Educate yourself and others: Take the time to educate yourself about the dangers of tobacco use and the benefits of a tobacco-free lifestyle. Stay updated on current research, statistics, and literature related to smoking and its effects on health. Share this knowledge with others, whether it's through conversations, social media, or participating in educational campaigns. By spreading awareness, you can motivate others to take action and make informed choices about their tobacco use.

2) Set a personal quit plan: If you are currently a smoker, create a personalized plan to quit smoking. Three steps for 8th graders to achieve the goal of promoting a smoke-free environment and choosing to be tobacco-free are:

1) Learn about the risks of tobacco use: Research and educate yourself about the harmful effects of tobacco and smoking. Understand the consequences it can have on your health, such as increased risk of lung cancer, heart disease, and respiratory issues. Take advantage of resources available to you, such as educational websites, books, and presentations, to gain a comprehensive understanding of why it is important to avoid tobacco.

2) Be a role model: Choose to live a tobacco-free lifestyle and become a positive role model for your friends and peers. Refuse offers to try smoking or using tobacco products, and encourage your friends to do the same. Share your knowledge about the health risks and benefits of being tobacco-free with your classmates, family, and community. By leading by example, you can inspire others to make healthier choices and create a supportive environment.

3) Promote awareness and advocacy: Take an active role in promoting smoke-free environments within your school and community. Participate in awareness campaigns or initiatives against tobacco use, such as organizing anti-smoking events or creating educational materials for your peers. Advocate for smoke-free policies at school and support efforts to make public spaces and recreational areas tobacco-free.
