What is a body cavity

A body cavity is an empty space or compartment within the body that houses and protects internal organs. These cavities help to separate and organize the various organs, providing support and allowing for their proper function. The human body has several major body cavities, including the cranial cavity (housing the brain), thoracic cavity (housing the heart and lungs), abdominal cavity (housing the stomach, liver, intestines, etc.), and pelvic cavity (housing reproductive organs, bladder, etc.). These cavities are lined with certain membranes, such as the meninges in the cranial cavity or the peritoneum in the abdominal cavity, which provide further protection and support.
