Linear situation: The amount of money earned per hour at a part-time job. As the number of hours worked increases, the total amount earned also increases at a constant rate.
Nonlinear situation: The height of a rocket as it launches into space. Initially, the height increases rapidly, then it starts to slow down and eventually reaches a maximum height, gradually descending back to the ground.
