While the Siege of the Alamo is undeniably a pivotal moment in Texas history, the Battle of San Jacinto holds greater significance in the Texas Revolution. This battle, fought on April 21, 1836, resulted in the decisive victory of Texian forces over the Mexican army, thus securing Texas' independence. Led by General Sam Houston, the Texians launched a surprise attack, capturing Mexican General Santa Anna. The Battle of San Jacinto marked the culmination of the Texian struggle for independence and paved the way for the establishment of the Republic of Texas.
