During the Reconquista, the two main groups fighting for control of the Iberian Peninsula were Christians and Muslims. The Reconquista was a period of several centuries, roughly from the early 8th century to 1492, during which Christian kingdoms sought to reclaim territory that had been taken by Muslim Moorish invaders who had crossed into Iberia from North Africa in 711 AD. Jews were present on the Iberian Peninsula during this time but were not a principal party in the military campaigns of the Reconquista. Buddhism was not a significant presence in medieval Spain and thus not a part of this conflict.
